FXCA update february 2012

I hope you are well and enjoying winter. Hello especially if you are receiving this update for the first time after asking to be subscribed to it either at the recent Vital Church Planting Conference or a recent Messy Fiesta! It’s good to have you with us.

The first two days of February saw the Fresh Expressions Canada (FXCA) team meet in Toronto for a consultation. It was really good to spend time together, in person and via Skype, to talk about what we see happening and ask how God might want us to respond.

Church planter and FXCA web manager, Ryan Sim has an excellent post on his blog reflecting on the demise of RIM. “How many churches, and leaders, are distracted from our core purpose of being and making followers of Jesus?  I can think of too many examples to list…and RIM is a reminder and warning for us all!” Read the full post here.

Sue & Andy Kalbfleisch have been hard at work for much of 2011 filming and editing “A Missional Road Trip,” a 30 minute documentary  for the Diocese of Toronto. Watch it here. In addition Sue is the  Messy Church Canada coordinator, as well as coordinating Vision Days for FXCA.

Vital Chuch Planting Conference, Toronto, Feb. 2-4 2012

The Missional Roadmap. The conference had a deliberately practical focus this year to help dioceses, parishes and teams begin new missional projects, church plants and fresh expressions of church. See some photos of the three day event here. Read media reports from the conference here and here.

Two-thirds of the people (including one diocesan bishop) at the first two days of the conference were there for the first time, whilst on Saturday we had 65 people arrive for the day of workshops! This means that the mission-shaping conversation seems to be spreading.

The first Fresh Expressions Vision Day to be held in Saskatchewan, happens on Saturday February 25th in Regina. This will be a wonderful opportunity for all members of the Christian community in that city to join in a highly interactive and inspiring day. New Vision day coordinator

After over three years of  coordinating Vision Days for us, Sue Kalbfleisch is stepping down after the Regina Vision Day to devote more of her time to Messy Church. Thank you so much Sue for all you have done in developing and supporting many local churches who wanted to present a Vision Day!

All of which means that Fresh Expressions Canada is looking for a Jesus-centred and mission-minded person to coordinate Vision Days. This person needs to be generous (it’s a voluntary position), initiative taking, an excellent communicator, and preferably have attended a Fresh Expressions Vision Day. Training will be given. If you or someone you know might be interested in this position please email vision@freshexpressions.ca

The next Messy Fiesta will be held at Christ the King – Dietrich Bonhoeffer Lutheran Church in Thornhill ON on February 18th – click here  for more information. For more information about Messy Church in Canada, please contact Sue Kalbfleisch at sue.kalbfleisch@freshexpressions.ca and check out www.facebook.com/Messy ChurchCanada

That’s about it for now! Check at our website www.freshexpressions.ca for the latest news.

Please keep us in your prayers.

God bless,
