Using materials developed in England by Fresh Expressions, Vision Days, Mission Shaped Intro and now Mission Shaped Ministry, have been adapted and are being used successfully in several Canadian contexts.

Vision Days

A day for the whole Christian community to discover more about fresh expressions of church.

Key features of each vision day include:
  • integral and varied prayer and worship;
  • plenty of interaction with local and national stories;
  • celebration of what God is doing through fresh expressions of church with theological reflection on why this is so important;
  • a focus on key values and how fresh expressions of church form;
  • optional seminars exploring issues such as children, rural needs, city dwellers and discipleship;
  • guided reflection: what is God calling you to do?;
  • training and resources information

vision days are stimulating experiences in themselves and are suitable for:

  • complete beginners;
  • those who have real questions about becoming a more mission-shaped church;
  • those who have started something new and need some practical help;
  • Christians from any church and every tradition.
Each vision day is led by two co-presenters and is carefully planned in partnership with an ecumenical group of churches to ensure that it is locally relevant. They usually take place on a Saturday and we aim to have groups of 50 or more attending.Please do check the list above to see if there is already a day near you. Six weeks to rediscover mission and re-imagine church.

 

New world, new church? Our world and our lives have changed radically in the last twenty years, but has the church adapted to this change? Do we need a changed church for a changing world? Are new forms of church really possible? If so, how can they be developed?

The aim of this course is to explore the ‘why’ of creating fresh expressions of church rather than the ‘how’. The six week course takes us on a journey looking at the ever-changing nature of our social communities, and why the church needs to rethink its approach to those communities in meaningful and relevant ways.

The course is designed to present those changes in an informative and interactive way, and is suitable for both clergy and lay alike of any denomination. The ninety minute to two hour interactive sessions are delivered through verbal presentation, powerpoints, movie clips and stories with group participation.

Mission Shaped Ministry


The Fresh Expressions eight-month mission shaped ministry course has been running ecumenically in over fifty across the UK since its launch in September 2006, and the first Canadian course concluded recently.

The aim of the course is to prepare individuals and teams of any denomination for planning and implementing fresh expressions of church.

  • We envisage that people will come as individuals or as teams.
  • We hope that many will begin the course as they are preparing to embark on a fresh expression of church, but that others would come at a later or earlier stage in these ministries.
  • We hope that many clergy will take part in the course (as these elements have not traditionally been part of clergy training) alongside many lay people.
